-The Humble Walk - Lutheran and Episcopal Campus Ministry @ Univ. of Maryland Ministry and Program Assistant
The Ministry and Program Assistant works with the campus ministry to make connections with college students, help empower student leaders, and see to the details of running programs ranging from worship to elementary school mentoring programs.
1. Serve as one of the primary staff persons for the student ministry and serve as part of a team that includes the Campus Pastor, a part-time administrative assistant, a director for stewardship and advancement, student leaders of our children’s tutoring and mentoring programs, and student ministry leaders who lead worship, music, and small groups.
2. Help in the preparation for Sunday night worship. This includes overseeing set-up, securing student volunteers, preparing the powerpoint, announcement slides, etc.
3. Engage with students, alumni and friends, including regular one-on-one’s with students.
4. Work with our three children’s programs (Start, En Camino and CARing project) and with the student peer ministers to carry out these programs. Being relational with college student volunteers is especially important, as most of them are not otherwise connected to the ministry.
5. Attend and assist in the planning of our retreats including the annual fall retreat, our Alternative Spring Break trip, winter trip, and, if possible, the end of the year trip most likely to Taize and Europe (the ministry pays for all travel and costs related to the trips for this position).
6. Other activities and duties as they come up, related to the ministry. This includes creating opportunities for learning and growth for the Ministry Assistant outside of the regular campus ministry activities.
7. Have fun! Enjoy walking with students in their faith journeys. This can include accompanying students as they have an open-mic night, talking about faith and life, attending a play or sporting event, joining in on bonding activities, playing board games, etc.
