Job Summary: 

Owensboro Community and Technical College in partnership with HealthForce Kentucky is seeking a qualified candidate for a full-time, 12-month Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist – Nursing Faculty position within the Professional and Technical Studies of Academic Affairs. This role is integral to supporting healthcare education through the development and facilitation of laboratory skills and healthcare simulation scenarios. The selected individual will collaborate with faculty and staff to design and implement low and high-fidelity simulation experiences aimed at enhancing clinical competencies and decision-making skills among students. While the primary focus will be on supporting the Nursing program, the position may also provide simulation support for the Radiography, Medical Assisting, Surgical Technology, Veterinary Technology, and EMS–Paramedic programs as needed. 

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 
The duties/responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: 

  • Facilitate and participate in all aspects of the laboratory/simulation experiences. 
  • Serve as a simulation operations specialist by setting up and running educational experiences as requested by faculty.
  • Support faculty course leads by participating in laboratory teaching, evaluations and check off’s of students. 
  • Prepare and submit order requests to maintain inventory of consumable supplies for lab/simulation experiences. 
  • Become familiar with and represent the Healthcare Standards of Best Practice® from the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL).
  • Organize and track equipment and supplies. 
  • Maintain an overall lab environment that is conducive to learning.
  • Participate in event and scenario planning and provide expertise on equipment and facilities related to each healthcare program. 
  • Maintain proficiency in existing and emerging technologies, including basic theory, design, and implementation of simulation.
  • Create innovative ideas, evaluate new equipment, and identify opportunities for improvement of the simulation experience for the healthcare programs.
  • Serve as primary contact with equipment manufacturers regarding equipment to perform troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.
  • Conduct routine equipment maintenance, inventory updates, and equipment cleaning. 
  • Lead professional development activities for staff, faculty, and students on simulation and related technology. 
  • Participate in internal, external, and professional development activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must hold an active, unencumbered, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Kentucky or a compact state.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree required – must obtain a graduate degree in nursing within five (5) years of hire.
  • Two years’ full-time experience within the last five years required. 
  • Existing Master of Science in Nursing preferred. 
  • Certified or willing to become certified as a Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist.
  • Preferred knowledge/experience in communication, computer information technology, and computer hardware and software applications relevant to laboratory equipment and simulator functions.
