Summary of Function

The school nurse is a member of the total educational team who instructs and directs children and staff to promote the mental and physical health of students so that they may participate in and benefit from the educational program. To accomplish this task, the nurse will perform or supervise the performance of the following services as established by the Standards of School Nursing Practice and in accordance with the Colorado Nurse Practice Act.


Essential Job Functions

•Ensures that the health needs of students are addressed during the school day

•Manages communicable diseases outbreaks

•Directs the immunization program

•Oversees delegated nursing tasks

•Develops and implements health care plans

•Serves as liaison between teachers, administrators, parents, and community health care providers

•Provides for the care of acute health care needs, including emergencies

•Conducts health assessments, including all required evaluation for students with suspected disabilities

•Oversees vision and hearing screening programs

•Oversees the medication administration policy of schools

•Prepares and submits appropriate reports and written summaries, including all required documentation for Medicaid reimbursement.

•Ability to demonstrate knowledge of district policy and state and federal laws regarding nursing services to general education and special education students

•Knowledge of the general organization and functions of a public school system

•Ability to communicate effectively and resolve conflict with students, parents, and community groups

•Good organization and communication skills

•Demonstrates accomplishments in keeping professionally current


Qualifications:

•Bachelor of Science in Nursing

•Appropriate State (CDE) licensure/certification


Organizational Relationships

Reports to Principal and Director of Counselling and Wellness


Working Conditions

Work is performed in a typical school setting or office environment


Physical Demands

The work requires periods of physical activity. Typical positions require workers to walk or stand for long periods of time, lift and carry up to 20 pounds, climb stairs, bend, reach, hold, grasp and turn objects, and use fingers to operate computers or typewriter keyboards. The work requires the ability to speak normally and use normal or aided vision and hearing.

SALARY RANGE

Teachers (including Psychologists, Occupational, Therapists, Physical Therapists, and Counselors) hired into D11 are placed on the appropriate lane and step of the teacher salary schedule based on two factors which include:


a) the educational background of the applicant and

b) the number of years of prior job related experience (the maximum credit granted is 14 years provided the experience occurred in the last 15 years).


The minimum in-hire salary for a this position is $39,273/yr and the maximum salary is $69,432/yr

Per annual approval by the Board of Education: Employees shall be reimbursed at the rate established by the Board when a privately owned automobile is required to be used in the performance of official duty. Rules and restrictions of use provided in the Certified Teachers CSEA Master Agreement – Article 10.6 TEACHING CONDITIONS/ASSIGNMENTS and/or the Educational Support Professional Meet and Confer Handbook - 17.4 MILEAGE ALLOWANCE.
