Jewish Education Director

THIS IS A SEASONAL POSITION FOR SUMMER 2021
Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Jewish Education Director is primarily responsible for setting and camp-wide program goals, and ensures that they are carried out in a safe and organized manner. The Jewish Education Director plans and implements educational activities that serve to increase camper and staff connections to Judaism through their participation. The Jewish Education Director serves as an educational advisor and resource for the Fine Arts Coordinator, Sports Coordinator, Waterfront Director, Ropes Course Director, and all madrichim as they plan and implement programs for their activity areas. The Jewish Education Director is expected to present themselves with integrity, act as a Dugma Ishit (personal example) in and outside of camp, and is committed to upholding the mission/vision of Camp Young Judaea Midwest.
Responsibilities | The Jewish Education Director is responsible for...
  • Determining Jewish Education outputs and outcomes for all program areas on camp
  • Collaborating with Program Director and Israel Education Director to advise staff as they plan,implement, and evaluate camp programs
  • Supporting and advising the Waterfront and Ropes Directors, and Fine Arts and Sports Coordinators, and all madrichim to meet camp-wide Jewish Education goals focusing on Connected Judaism
  • Support the Program Director in the implementation of camp-wide activities
  • Contributing to the resolution of scheduling and logistics challenges
  • Serving as the creative force for all Jewish Education on camp
  • Provide constructive feedback to staff about program planning and implementation
  • Communicating proactively with camp leadership on key matters, including behavioral of campers
  • Coordinating Jewish Education goals in all activity areas, using the CYJ Midwest Program Form
  • Leading camp-wide activities through coordination of a va’adot (committees)
  • Ensuring clean, orderly, and safe activity areas by developing, explaining, and enforcing instructions forall staff on the use of program supplies on camp
  • Support the Program Director in building the Days Off and Shmirah (nightly on-duty) schedules
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of staff training alongside the Assistant Director
  • Teach and model proper behavior to tzevet (staff)
  • Be a positive presence and an advocate for camp wide policy
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Evidence of leadership skill and capacity
  • Strong background leading and teaching creative, fun, and safe Jewish programming in a youth development setting
  • Strong background in coaching others in the implementation of Jewish programming
  • Desire and ability to work with children and adults in a camp setting
  • Ability to give & take constructive criticism
  • A self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Management skills, including the ability to lead, motivate, and counsel staff to maximize their skills
  • A team player, and recognizes the importance of group success
  • Comfortable managing and working alongside others who have different work styles
  • Comfortable working with children who have different learning styles
