Special Education Teacher (School Year 2021-2022)

This Special Education teacher position is part of Owatonna's Alternative Learning Center (ALC) professional team. The ALC is a "school of choice" for students in grades 9-12 who prefer a smaller learning environment with a higher teacher to student ratio. The Special Education teacher at the ALC provides individualized and small group instruction, as well as general education classroom supports. The teacher plans jointly with the general education teacher to provide the accommodations and modifications necessary in order for the student to access and make progress within the general education curriculum. Depending on teacher qualifications, the position may also include direct teaching of general education content.

ALC teachers are highly relational, yet also possess strong skills in curriculum differentiation based on students' strengths and challenges. Lessons are individualized and delivered with creativity and enthusiasm in order to maximize student engagement and learning, with the goal of preparing students for their transition to life after high school.

A valid Special Education teaching license issued by the Minnesota Department of Education. Consistent and reliable attendance is required.
