Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)

RBTs work 1:1 with patients living with autism or other developmental disabilities. RBTs are trained to deliver applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy to teach new skills that will improve the quality of their patients’ lives. Patients’ programs are individualized to meet their unique needs. Some examples of the types of skills that a RBT may work on with their assigned patients include social, communication, academic, and activities of daily living. Therapy sessions may occur in different locations depending on the needs of the patient. Locations can include a therapy center, the patient’s home or school, or another site within the community. RBTs work under the direct supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). The BCBA writes the patients’ program and provides training, support, and oversight to the RBTs.

The RBT position is challenging, but fun and extremely rewarding. RBTs get to see firsthand the progress of their assigned patients. Patients reach many milestones through therapy and much of their success is because of the RBT’s hard work.
