Assistant Civil / Electrical / Mechanical Engineer - Utility Consulting (Phoenix)

The Technical Advisory Analyst will work under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer to assist project teams to create world class designs for new projects, alterations and redevelopments on a variety of projects including power, process, corporate, healthcare, pipeline, airports, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, government and military facilities. The Technical Advisory Analyst will work with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting engineering plans according to budget constraints, design factors or client needs.
  • Assists in the mechanical and electrical engineering design of utility planning projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
  • Assists with modifying and reviewing engineering drawings for a variety of projects including, but not limited to: power plants, process facilities, industrial facilities, healthcare facilities, airports, educational institutions, commercial, and governmental and military facilities.
  • Assists in designing mechanical and electrical components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.
  • Applies basic knowledge of commonly used mechanical and electrical concepts, practices, codes, and procedures within the engineering services industry.
  • Assists in performing field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients.
  • Assists with research and applies project related data as required by the project managers.
  • Assist with engineering, financial, and technical analysis for various engineering projects including power generation, power delivery, and other utilities.
  • Assist in developing and performing detailed financial analysis using a variety of computer-based software.
  • Assist project managers, engineers and technical analysts to develop and incorporate technical assumptions regarding capital costs, operation and maintenance costs, performance estimates, and economic assumptions and forecasts.
  • Assist with developing technical reports and presentations summarizing results of analysis.
  • Assist with organizing data into report format and arrange graphic illustrations of research findings. Assist with interpreting financial and economic conditions and subsequent business implications to client projects
  • Assists with client presentations, design review, financial analyst, and contract administration for the design of utility systems for various industries and markets.
  • Assist with transmission planning studies.
  • Assist with power system planning and operations analysis including: power flow, transient, stability, short circuit, electromagnetic transients, reliability and economic dispatch.
  • Assist with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and regional requirement assessments.
  • Assist with electric power risk assessments.
  • Apply basic electrical engineering theory and principles to complete assigned tasks on planning, analysis, and other projects.
  • Perform transmission study analysis utilizing power system software.
  • Assist lead engineers with various electric power engineering activities.
  • Participate in internal and/or external power system conferences.
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.
  • Or Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • Master’s degree in Engineering may be substituted for 1 year of experience.
  • Successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
  • Involvement on campus or in the community.
  • Basic knowledge in standard engineering techniques, principles and procedures.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently (i.e. without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship) in the country where this position is located.
