Safety and Training Supervisor

Position Summary
The Safety/Training Supervisor is responsible to ensure that all job specific training for the distribution centers positions have been completed and certified. Provide Safety support and compliance with federal, state, and local laws for the supply chain, distribution center and to maintain, promote and exceed safety standards. Ensure all new hires are properly trained on company policies and procedures using specified best one-way training methods. Recruit and train new trainers, delegate training tasks and evaluate trainer performance. Keep leadership informed on all training and re-certification progress for all compliance trainings. Maintain in house training equipment, materials, and facilities for up to date standards. This position will assist with implementing programs to drive a culture of safety at their location. This leader will facilitate and support all safety KPI's that drive the distribution centers scorecard.
Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's in supply chain or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Supervisory experience in training, environmental and safety or equivalent preferred.
  • ASP (Associate Safety Professional), CSP (Certified Safety Professional), OSHA 10 certification preferred.
  • MHE Certification preferred.
Responsibilities
Training:
  • Working knowledge of all equipment, including Powered Industrial Equipment, voice selection, and battery changing procedures
  • Be able to conduct Vehicle Inspection Report (VIR)
  • Understand the Selection process, selecting Orders, pickup location, inducting orders, Order selection path and traffic flow/right of way
  • Pallet Building, wrapping, and labeling, stacking, right side up/arrow designations, product staging locations, out of stock procedures, damaged product procedures and break down items
  • Special Handling procedures, Plastic bag protection from wet produce, fresh meat/chicken/fish, Banana blanketing, Bagging frozen product
  • Working knowledge of the receiving process, ASN and OS and D processes
  • Support Inventory control Processes
  • Support Facility and Maintenance processes
Safety:
  • Conduct safety audits and complete audit reports with recommendations for corrective action on findings. Follow-up with Distribution Management on audits regarding findings to resolve issues and obtain set standard for audits.
  • Prepare and submit required information to the appropriate agency to include risk management plans, environmental reports, OSHA recordkeeping reports and other reports, as necessary.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents; interact with internal and external contacts as required to include OSHA safety officers during an OSHA inspection.
  • Review, follow-up and maintain safety audit reports and monthly safety minutes, distribute safety audit results, and conduct/oversee internal self-audits and related Environmental Health & Safety tasks. Distribute correspondence on Environmental Health & Safety issues including safety committee minutes and safety awareness information for Retail and Supply Chain facilities.
  • Identify Safety training needs and may help develop materials and courses to meet such training needs.
  • Implement and/or revise Safety policies/procedures; may participate in the development of new policies and practices.
  • Distribute safety materials for use by safety improvement teams, safety representatives and site leadership.
  • Provide safety education and training for Supply Chain associates including powered industrial truck licensing, process safety management, maintenance safety training etc.
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry trends and best Safety/Environmental Health practices; make recommendations to improve current programs and processes and to ensure legal compliance.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Excellent written, verbal, communication, along with strong facilitation and presentation skills. Ability to interact collaborate, and delegate with multiple levels of the organization. Must have strong organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail. Must have good leadership and training skills. Be able to learn/understand the machinery and have the ability to train associates on operating the machinery in a safe and efficient manner. Working knowledge of OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), EPA (Environmental Protection agency), regulations, MHE (Material Handling Equipment). Ability to think critically and react accordingly in emergency situations.
Ability to work flexible hours based on business needs. Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Power Point.

While performing the duties of this position, employees are subject to a warehouse environment and may frequently be exposed to changes in temperature and humidity based on assignment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. Employees must be able to work weekends, holidays, days and night hours, and overtime as necessary and as assigned, and must be able to work in the condition specified for 8-10 hours shift as assigned. Travel requirements vary by assignment.
