PE Teacher - Middle School

Definition: Under administrative supervision, the classroom teacher for Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8, or a combination thereof, establishes and maintains a program and environment favorable to learning and personal growth in accordance with each student’s individual need and ability while instructing and engaging all students in learning activities designed to promote social, emotional, and intellectual growth.
 
To perform the job of elementary teacher, an individual must meet the qualifications of knowledge, ability, and skill as prescribed and perform each duty and responsibility of the position with proficiency.

QUALIFICATIONS

Credentials:                               Valid Illinois Teaching Certificate or Licensure including requisite
                                                       Endorsements for service in grade levels and areas assigned
 
Education:                                   A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree including coursework to meet credential requirements
 
Experience:                                 Student Teaching, Internship, or Previous Employment in Teaching Position 
 
Personal Qualities:                    Presentation of Self (including appearance) and Interpersonal Skills
which establish a desirable example for students.
 
Physical Demands:                  Regularly required to stand and walk. Regularly required to speak, hear,   taste, and smell. Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or
feel objects, tools, or controls. Occasionally required to sit, climb or
balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Must be able to lift and/or move
objects up to 10 pounds. Must have visual ability to focus upon near,
distant, and peripheral images including depth perception.
 
Work Environment:                  Performing the duties of this job requires periodically working in
outside weather conditions. Must have tolerance for and ability to
perform with generally moderate noise levels.
     
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Demonstrates qualification and competency with area of assigned instruction.
  • Effectively communicates content knowledge and applications in area of assigned instruction.
  • Designs and implements instruction in compliance with prescribed district curriculum and objectives.
  • Utilizes instructional tools and applies instructional strategy of current best practice.
  • Communicates with parents positively, professionally, and regularly including parent teacher
conferencing.
  • Engages students in whole group instruction, small group instruction, and individual instruction.
  •  Establishes and maintains standards of student conduct and control required to achieve full participation in all activities.
  •  Creates and maintains an organized, uncluttered workspace with display emphasis on function and content.
  • Engages supervisor cooperatively.
  • Engages and interacts with colleagues respectfully.
  • Maintains and provides records including, but not limited to the evaluation of student performance, with accuracy and according the timeline requested.
  • Engages in professional development.
  • Participates in school-wide supervision of students during out of classroom activity.
  • Participates in staff meetings, district/school committees.
  • Participates in student activities by attending, volunteering, sponsoring, or coaching.
  • Other duties as assigned
