Assistant Director of Nursing

Assistant Director of Nursing - RN
Salary Commensurate with Experience
Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Nursing will assist the Director of Nursing with administrative functions such as supervising, directing, training, and providing direct quality resident care. Assume duties of Director of Nursing in his/her absence. The person holding this position is delegated the responsibility for carrying out the assigned duties and responsibilities in accordance with current federal and state regulations and established facility and county policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
  • Ensure that nursing personnel provide treatments, medications, rehabilitative nursing care, and ADL’s as stated in the resident care plans to make sure appropriate care and comfort is provided
  • Conduct regularly scheduled conferences with interdisciplinary team and other professionals to review and update resident assessment, MDS and care plan
  • Assure that visiting physicians are accompanied by licensed personnel and physician’s orders are carried out properly
  • Conduct conferences with residents and/or family members as necessary
  • Conduct daily rounds of residents to update knowledge of residents physical and emotional conditions and assure that staff is providing proper and adequate care
  • Oversee and review controlled substances to assure proper count and documentation
  • Complete chart audits to assure proper charting and documentation of care
  • Oversee, develop, and maintain nursing service goals and objectives, standards of nursing practice, daily performance and content of nursing policy and procedure manuals
  • Coordinate admissions, room assignments and discharges of residents
  • Verify time worked as reported on personnel time records
  • Promote effective working relationships with the Administrator, medical staff, personnel, volunteers, and agencies affiliated with the facility
  • Be responsible for direct handling of emergency situations
  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Nursing or Nursing Home Administrator
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of nursing services, rehabilitation, therapy, administration, supervision, and resident care
  • Comprehensive knowledge of general nursing and auxiliary personnel
  • Ability to assess and react to resident’s needs
  • Knowledge or application of personnel administration in assigning, supervising, and evaluating activities of staff
  • Awareness of special diets
  • Knowledge of medications and their effects
  • Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with others
Required Qualifications
  • Current, active license as a registered nurse in Illinois
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Computer literacy
  • Two years of registered nurse experience
  • Ability to be on call and possibly work weekends based on staffing requirements
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proven leadership ability and management skills
Physical Attributes/Demands
  • Occasionally transfers up to 75 pounds with assist while lifting and positioning and transferring residents
  • Pushes/pulls medication carts requiring force of 10-30 pounds 
  • Pushes and pulls residents weighing 75-300 pounds in wheelchairs
  • Reposition residents weighing 75-300 pounds in bed for treatments and nursing procedures as needed
  • Stands and walks up to 75% of shift to provide resident assessments
  • Stoops, bends, and squats as required to reach lower drawers on medication carts, adjust residents’ items, etc.
  • Able to wear gloves and other PPE 
  • Identifies residents, call lights, and unusual occurrences on unit at a distance of 50 feet

In 1974 the citizens of the County decided to continue the tradition of providing care to the elderly when they passed a referendum to build the current Nursing Home, at its current location.
