Special Education Job Coach

2 positions for the 2021-22 school year

Responsibilities:
• Responsible for planning, application, implementation and evaluation of students within KRESA Special Education program's work-based learning programming within the school setting as well as within the community.
• Assist students with opportunities to obtain the skills, credentials, resources and support necessary to become employed or volunteer.
• Ability to select and develop appropriate instructional methods, skills and techniques attuned to people's cultural, multicultural or marginalized experiences.
• Serve as liaison and collaborate with case load teachers and work-based learning coordinator, to maintain the integrity of the students IEP.
• Facilitate transportation using Metro County Connect for students to and from worksites, as well assists and train students to schedule reoccurring rides.
• Assist and provide support for student behavior intervention including the development and implementation of student behavior plans.
• Facilitate regular bi-weekly discussions with your WBL students on caseload during which: strength and skill guidance, review WBL evaluation in sections to help students connect to IEP goals.
• Keep abreast of current changes affecting WBL paperwork, FTE, 30-day signatures and student Training Agreements.
• Maintain up to date records for each WBL student and work-site needed for COUNT purposes.
• Coordinate YAP wide activities to incorporate equity throughout the WBL program (attending job fairs, creating campus learning and skill building opportunities for students).
• Required to have a physical presence at the designated job site each scheduled workday.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with others including students, parents, peers, colleagues, employers, agencies, administrators, etc.
• Work with caseload teachers to update on a consistent basis (daily/weekly), student’s growth and effectiveness of meeting students individual IEP Goals and Objectives.
• Create tasks list and modify list as to meet each individual student’s level of need.
• Frequent travel within and around Kalamazoo County.
• Collect, maintain, and report appropriate data and outcomes to measure student’s growth on IEP goals and objectives.
• Expand work-based learning opportunities for students that lead to paid employment.
• Helping YAP WBL students explore new employment opportunities, providing feedback on resumes or cover letters and strategizing for a successful job interview.
• Actively network, advocate and maintain relationships to promote career opportunities.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Skills:
Experience with Work-Based Learning sites and documentation preferred. Embraces and supports KRESA philosophies related to diversity, inclusiveness and anti-racism. Ability to interact effectively with individuals from a wide range of cultures. Ability to discuss cultural differences with colleagues and clients. Ability to assess one's own strengths and limitations or challenges and integrate this understanding into interpersonal interactions.
