Title: Early Education Center Teacher – $1000 Retention Bonus (3 positions available)
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Earnings: $12.00 – $17.00 per hour based on EEC-related education and experience
Location: Burke Early Education Center 2320 W. Burleigh St., Milwaukee 53206

This position is responsible for assisting with the programming in the classroom, which includes supporting students with virtual learning. This is a year-round, full-time position eligible for benefits. The program is open Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Main Job Responsibilities
  1. Support students with virtual learning, e.g., helping youth login, support if there are questions, etc. Note that COA is not responsible for the youths’ educational performance.
  2. Lead activities and groups per curriculum, grant, or program plan.
  3. Actively engage with youth at all times, walking around during activity to ensure participation and understanding. Manage youth behavior through positive reinforcement, redirection, and progressive discipline.
  4. Perform intensified cleaning as per COA’s COVID policy.
  5. Accurately record activity attendance promptly at beginning of each activity.
  6. Role model appropriate behavior at all times. This includes developing and maintaining appropriate professional relationships with youth, colleagues, parents, facilitators, community members, etc.

Qualifications
  • Must meet requirements for Assistant Teacher per DCF 251
  • At least 18 years old and
  • one for-credit ECE/related course within 6 months or
  • one noncredit course within 6 months (Intro to Child Care / School-Age Profession) or
  • Completion of assistant child care teacher training program as per DPI or
  • At least 10 hours of approved training within 6 months
  • Minimum of one year of experience leading at least one structured activity for urban youth preferred
  • Must be computer literate: able to use Word to create, edit and format documents and flyers as well as Excel to enter in and manipulate data
  • Flexibility to work in different program areas and age groups – is a team player
  • Must be a self-starter, take initiative, and be able to work independently
  • Patience, positive attitude, and cultural competency
  • The physical requirements are the ability to sit and stand for long periods of time; ability to lift and move up to 20 pounds; and the ability to move/run, i.e. to physically engage with the youth and actively participate in programming
  • Must commit to getting a Registry certificate within 6 months, getting trained on Shaken Baby Syndrome and CPR/First Aid within 3 months, and submitting proof of a physical examination completed not more than 12 months prior to nor more than 30 days after hire
