National Summer 2021 Internships

Summary

NARAL Pro-Choice America is hiring for multiple positions in our internship and fellowship program. Our program will help you gain real-world, practical job skills to prepare you for your career. As one of the leading advocacy organizations in the country, you'll be learning from the best - and leaving your mark on the organization as well. Our interns contribute significantly to the fight to protect and expand reproductive freedom for every body.

We are looking for fiercely pro-choice candidates with a strong commitment to reproductive freedom. If you're interested in politics, policy, non-profit work, and/or reproductive freedom, we want to hear from you!



Details

Compensation: Hourly rate $15/hr ($16.07/hr if based in San Francisco) and a $50 per month home office stipend depending on in-person/remote capabilities
Start date: June 1st or June 7th (though we can be flexible)
Length of internship: 10-12 weeks
Location: Due to COVID-19, the nature of in-person work environments and stay at home remote work are constantly changing. We are making accommodations to have remote internship. However, you must be able to work Eastern Time Zone hours.



You might be a fit for our internship program, if you're...

- Currently enrolled in or recently completed (within 6 months) an accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program
- Able to make a 12-week commitment starting on June 1st or June 7th
- Excited to work to advance reproductive freedom
- Passionate and devoted to protecting the right of all people to exercise the full range of their reproductive choices
- Enthusiastic about working with diverse groups and creating an inclusive and equitable environment for everyone
- Familiar with Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite (or interested in learning!)

On the Campaigns team, you will...

  • Assist with special projects for the Campaigns team
  • Research various political and legislative related topics
  • Conduct political outreach to organize events
  • Attend events both on and off-site (and/or virtually) to understand and further NARAL’s mission
  • Assist in the planning and logistical preparation for internal and external meetings
  • Assist in financial tracking and accounts payable for Campaigns team
  • Use your writing skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Work autonomously and partner with your team


On the Communications team, you will...

  • Compile daily press clips and regularly monitor the media for relevant news articles
  • Organize, maintain, and update media lists and communication databases
  • Draft communications content (weekly roundups, briefing documents, press releases, etc.)
  • Perform additional tasks to support our communications team
  • Hone your writing skills by helping to draft Letters to the Editor, talking points, and op-eds
  • Collaborate on national and state-specific strategies and tactics to shape narratives in the media
  • Assist with rolling out candidate endorsements

On the Development team, you will...

  • Assist with donor research and prospecting
  • Assist with event management and logistics
  • Assist with and create materials for our call-time program
  • Update and maintain donor database
  • Answer member questions via phone and email
  • Create and edit development materials, including our quarterly donor newsletter, proposals, and/or reports Provide general administrative support for the Development department
  • Use Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel) and NGP VAN/EveryAction (previous experience is a nice-to-have, interest in learning these tools is required!)
  • Have a passion for communicating with donors and supporters
  • Exhibit professionalism and strong attention-to-detail in all projects
  • Join weekly Development Department meetings 
  • Customer service background is preferred but not required

On the Digital team, you will...

  • Learn about digital strategy, acquisition, outreach, and fundraising tactics at major national non-profit 
  • Receive training on all NARAL’s digital outreach and acquisition tools; and support copy creation, production, and reporting. More specifically Digital interns will support: 
- Email, SMS, and online action page creation
- Social media dissemination 
- Website maintenance
- Data and analytics tools
  • Draft copy in alignment with NARAL messaging for email, social media, and SMS
  • Gain insight on how to plan and promote integrated national digital campaigns and initiatives
  • Assist with online community management and member cultivation and stewardship program outreach
  • Play a large role in helping to support NARAL’s website redesign
  • Create a week long fundraising campaign that highlights NARAL’s interns

On the Executive team, you will...

  • Work closely with members of the Executive team to further NARAL's mission
  • Assist with special projects for the Executive team
  • Research various political and development-related topics
  • Conduct political outreach to organize events
  • Provide general administrative support for the Executive team, as needed
  • Assist in the planning and logistical preparation for internal and external meetings

On the Research team, you will...

  • Monitor coverage of the radical anti-choice movement on traditional and social media platforms and produce summaries of the conversation
  • Create new research products as needed, ranging from topics like online disinformation to medication abortion. Products may be public facing products like blog posts and public memos, or may be internal research briefs and memos.
  • Maintain a calendar of major anti-choice events
  • Maintain and update an internal, qualitative, digital database that compiled existing research into a user-friendly, accessible system for the NARAL network
  • Identify opportunities to update existing research products to ensure we have the most accurate, actionable intelligence available
  • Use your writing skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Need to be interested in opposition research, political or advocacy campaigns, and/or communications/media

On the Political team, you will...

  • Research candidates, races, and relevant individuals and groups
  • Coordinate resources, such as targeting and polling information for the Political Department
  • Assist with planning and logistical preparation for internal and external meetings
  • Participate in onsite, offsite, and/or virtual meetings
  • Provide general administrative support for the Political team
