Social Media Fall Intern


 
National Social Media Intern Description
 
 
Description: The National Social Media intern will assist with the search for, selection, curation and implementation of stories, photos and more, as well as the day-to-day management of Best Friends national social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and TikTok), in order to increase brand awareness and steward relationships with Best Friends fans and supporters. The National Social Media Intern will also assist in staying abreast of current trends in social media and use that data to help develop and implement social media strategies.

Location: Remote

Reports to: Emily Tolliver (Manager, Social Communities and Content)

Hours: approximately 10 hours weekly, schedule flexible, college credit can be arranged

Time frame: Fall (August-December)

Learning objectives:
·       Learn a variety of methods used to build Best Friends brand awareness within new audiences across 5 social channels: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and TikTok
·       Learn how to prepare and implement a successful, comprehensive social media strategy that increases overall brand awareness and donations in the competitive social sphere
·       Develop a deep understanding of Best Friends’ mission and the breadth of social communities that engage in issues central to the mission (both communities that are already part of the no-kill movement and those that are not)
·       Gain a foundational understanding of strategy and publishing processes for Best Friends social media channels including reporting on campaign and post-performance

Responsibilities:
·       Monitor specific hashtags and identify users who have the potential to be influential in spreading the Best Friends message
·       Mine volunteer-run Facebook Groups and Pages as well as Tack for content to post on National social Pages, seek out permission from users to post
·       Engage with Best Friends supporters across our social channels by responding to comments and direct messages to build and deepen relationships
·       Help develop social media strategies and recurring posts for National social channels
·       Research new and innovative ways to engage the Best Friends community across social platforms
·       Create a plan to increase recruitment through various social channels

Requirements:
●      Must be 18 years or older
●      Must have a genuine interest in animals and the field of animal welfare
●      Currently studying or graduated with degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or related field preferred but not required
●      Must be confident using Microsoft products, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
●      Must work well under pressure, have good communication skills and be comfortable meeting new people
●      Residents of NY, CA & WA must be students seeking academic credit to participate
