Milwaukee Repertory Theater, a LORT theater located in the heart of Wisconsin’s largest metropolitan area, is currently seeking applicants for the position of Artistic Associate. Position Summary:  Milwaukee Rep is seeking an Artistic Associate to join our staff! The Artistic Associate is responsible for managing and overseeing Artistic department administration functions, including providing general support as directed by the Artistic Director and Artistic Producer as well as producing off-subscription Artistic events under the direction of the Artistic Producer.

Other major duties and responsibilities include:
  • Provide daily administrative support and assistance for the Artistic department, including schedule coordination, organizing databases and files, arranging travel for the department, providing support for Milwaukee Rep’s Emerging Professional Residents (EPR) program, and tracking department budgets
  • Cast and coordinate ancillary events with a raised consciousness towards Milwaukee Rep’s ED&I efforts, in consultation with the Artistic Producer and Artistic Director, including development or marketing events
  • Lead development, programming and cultivation of our online content program with St John’s on the Lake
  • Assist in producing the annual Gala
  • Coordinate and prepare agendas for meetings of the full Artistic department, Artistic staff retreats, including Associate Artist gatherings. Record and distribute minutes as needed.
  • Work in tandem with the Company Manager to coordinate and oversee Artistic department guest visits and itineraries.
  • Lead development and execution of our annual Milwaukee General Auditions
  • Assist with casting projects, including scheduling casting appointments and providing materials and information to agents/artists
  • Read and report on new and extant material in consideration for season planning
  • Build and cultivate relationships with fellow peers and theater artists in the Milwaukee community. This includes attending shows, gatherings, and patron engagement events as necessary.
  • Prepare and submit Artistic department materials as required for Board Meetings.
  • Lead talkbacks as needed after performances.
  • Maintain and organize extensive and comprehensive artistic database, including playwrights, producers, directors, choreographers, designers, composers, music directors, actors, Emerging Professional Residency alumni, and other artistic personnel. Maintain current contact information for agents, playwrights, and producers in appropriate databases.
  • Support Milwaukee Repertory Theater productions by attending rehearsal hall run-throughs, previews, and opening night performances.

Compensation and Benefits:  This position pays an annual rate of $30,000-$32,500. Employees receive benefits including 100% employer paid health and dental insurance premiums for the individual employee, employer contributions to a health savings account, a paid time off package and 403(b) retirement plan.

Qualifications:
  • General knowledge of the theater industry or a willingness to learn
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Outlook, and Word
  • Ability to effectively communicate and work well within a diverse group of colleagues and artists, all while exhibiting grace and good humor under pressure
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines independently with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, as necessary.
  • Knowledge of the theatrical landscape.
  • Ability to read music/scores a plus
