New Hampshire Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence
Fall Virtual Internship: September 15 - December 15
The New Hampshire Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence is looking for a passionate, energetic, dynamic and motivated intern who loves politics and would like to learn more about the political process and the issues of domestic and sexual violence, human trafficking, child abuse and stalking. The intern will be based in the Coalition’s Public Affairs Team which consists of the Director of Public Affairs, Public Policy Specialist, Community Relations Specialist and Public Affairs Coordinator.
Under the supervision of the Public Affairs Team, the Legislative Intern will:
- research issue areas and proposed bills.
- track and report on the Coalition’s priority legislation.
- attend legislative committee meetings and other policy meetings as directed.
- support in the creation of advocacy campaigns and/or outreach initiatives to raise public awareness about critical legislation.
- assist with the Coalition’s development, fundraising and communications work as needed.
The Coalition Legislative Internship is highly competitive and former interns are currently working all across the country as victim advocates, lawyers, elected officials, professors, researchers, and U.S. Congressional staffers.
Undergraduate or Graduate students who are studying political science, law, social work, criminal justice, sociology, history, or gender studies are preferred.
Internship start dates can be flexible depending on applicant’s schedule. A student must have at least 10 hours per week available during a complete semester in order to engage in a meaningful internship. The internship is unpaid, but there is the opportunity to receive course credit.
The deadline to apply for the Fall internship is August 9, 2021. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, internships will be virtual. However, there may be opportunities for meeting or working in-person. This is subject to change based on the CDC health guidelines, NH state guidelines, and NHCADSV office policy.
Legislative Internship Preferred Skills:
- Interest in the mission and work of the Coalition
- Work comfortably and effectively in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment.
- Be reliable and have strong time management and organizational skills.
- Be able to work independently in a virtual setting, including feeling comfortable asking for help.
- Be able to take direction and criticism well.
- Be able to digest new information quickly and apply it productively.
- Be consistent and dependable in their work habits.
- Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Have the capacity to conduct extensive research.
