Post-Master's Airway Medical Device Research Internship

The U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research is offering post-master's-level internships at the Joint Base San Antonio.

What will I be doing?

You will join a community of scientists and researchers in an effort to research airway medical devices. This research project will support a DHP 6.7 funded airway study at the USAISR and the Brooke Army Medical Center. Under the guidance of a mentor and other military scientists, you will take part in the facilitation of DoD-funded research focused on studying the success and preferences of combat medics using various marketed airway devices with focus on training combat medics to use airway devices. After engaging in qualitative research methods, you will debrief the medics and obtain key feedback. In addition, as an active member of the study team, you will interact with government civilian scientists, military scientists, and medics.

What is the anticipated start date?

The U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research reviews applications on a rolling basis. Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidate. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis and internships will be filled as qualified candidates are identified.

Appointment Length

This appointment is a 12-month research appointment, with the possibility to be renewed for additional research periods. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.

What are the benefits?

You will receive a stipend to be determined by USAISR. Stipends are typically based on a participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location. Other benefits may include the following:

Nature of Appointment

You will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DoD, or any other office or agency. Instead, you will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.

Qualifications

Candidate should have earned a master's degree by June 2021 in a STEM discipline. Prior research experience is preferred.

  • Degree: Master's Degree received within the last 60 months or anticipated to be received by 6/30/2021 11:59:00 PM.
