Associate Reliability Engineer

Job Summary

The Associate Reliability Engineer supports cement plant Maintenance and Production departments with problem-solving and project execution in order to reduce time, improve the process, and lower operating costs by effectively applying Reliability Engineering methods and predictive/preventive maintenance programs. This position would have to oversee all maintenance department planning and scheduling activities. 


Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Maintenance Planner, Maintenance Engineer, and Purchasing to ensure that all necessary inventories are established for spare parts and most common repair parts for critical equipment
  • Inspect and evaluate equipment and develops reliability centered maintenance programs
  • Work closely with Planner and Purchasing to establish and maintain effective Bill of Materials (BOM) process in conjunction with maintenance program
  • Troubleshoot problems in the plant by studying and determining root causes of failures
  • Prepare information to present root cause failure conclusions
  • Implement corrective/preventive actions ensuring optimal reliability
  • Identify, collect, analyze, and manage various types of data to minimize failures and improve performance, and use failure analysis and other types of root cause analysis in support of reliability
  • Establish and manage plant vibration and the lubrication and oil analysis programs for all systems
  • Establish and maintain preventative maintenance measures and documentation for all equipment
  • Maintain and modify, as needed, the plant engineering systems and library
  • Manage projects including but not limited to project safety, scope development, budget, tracking/controlling, coordinating with internal resources as well as outside vendors
  • Assist with departmental budget development, maintenance reporting, and capital expenditure requests
  • Manage, engage and utilize all levels of employees to assist in generating creative ways to drive continuous improvement and increased reliability
  • Foster a culture of reliability; develop and provide training to personnel so that they can support safety, equipment reliability, and process efficiency
  • Coordinate apprenticeship-training program for new maintenance employees
  • Coordinate training classes with vendors and equipment suppliers regarding plant equipment
  • Help facilitate a culture change throughout the maintenance department


Education

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering or Civil Engineering
  • Reliability Engineer Certification preferred


Requirements/Qualifications

  • Knowledge of instrumentation, process controls (PLC’s), motors, starters, and VFD’s
  • Knowledge of fluid systems (compressible and non-compressible), Vibration, Rotating equipment
  • Comprehensive computer software knowledge required including; Excel, Word, Project, AutoCAD, and PowerPoint
  • Project management skills
  • Knowledge of hazards associated with areas of responsibility 
  • Must understand and comply with Lockout/Tagout procedure and safety requirements
  • Ability to exercise independent decision-making and prioritize conflicting demands
  • Must be willing to work cooperatively with plant and corporate personnel
  • Strong communication, organizational, planning, and scheduling skills
  • Ability to teach on all levels (supervisory and hourly)
  • Physical requirements: Walk on all types of surfaces (uneven and/or slippery ground), climb stairs/ladders up to 200 ft. in elevation, climb on equipment to provide supervision, walk long distances, stoop, crawl under and into enclosed spaces
  • Drive automobile to various plant sites and work locations; must be able to travel overnight (air/auto)
  • Possess and maintain a valid class C driver’s license
Preferred:
  • Industrial plant experience
  • Working knowledge of SAP Production
  • Experience working with a union contract
  • Understanding of state labor laws related to wage and hour
  • Maintenance or Reliability Engineering experience preferred
