Analytical Chemist – NMR

This position will be responsible for conducting various laboratory tasks related to the chemical characterization of polymeric systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Preparing samples, collecting and interpreting NMR data for structure elucidation  and real-time reaction monitoring support.
  • Conducting routine instrument maintenance and ordering supplies and other lab equipment.
  • Reporting key findings to colleagues via written reports and oral presentations and documenting results using data management systems.
  • Meeting with internal customers to understand their needs and identify the most effective experiments to solve scientific question(s).
 
 
  • Being responsible for all safety activities related to the NMR laboratory, including relentless attention to safe laboratory practices and conditions, Management of Change (MOC) procedures, Safety Risk Assessments (SRAs), and proper chemical management
  • Assisting in sample management
  • Developing NMR methods as needed for the analysis of polymers
  • Utilizing other techniques in the laboratory as necessary
  • Contribute to the development of NMR area strategic plan
The successful candidate will work under the guidance of senior analytical staff but must be a self-starter who can work independently and multi-task within a dynamic team environment. This position requires the utmost attention to safe laboratory practices and conditions along with excellent communication and effective time management skills to conduct multiple project tasks and meet timelines. This position may require work hour flexibility.
Position Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with focused NMR experience in an industrial or academic setting.
  • Experience with collecting and interpreting 1D NMR spectral data.
  • Experience with 1D spectral data processing (ie, FT, apodization, phasing, baseline correction and integration)
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Effective time management skills to conduct multiple project tasks and meet timelines in a dynamic team environment
  • Ability to safely handle hazardous solvents and other materials (training provided)
Desired Qualifications
  • 2+ years of NMR experience in an industrial laboratory environment
  • Knowledge of 1D quantitative analysis
  • Ability to execute 2D NMR experiments and interpret data
  • Knowledge related to polymers and polymer characterization
  • Experience developing and validating new analytical methods
  • Experience with Agilent/Varian NMR instruments and VNMR software
  • Knowledge of basic statistical analysis
  • Strong interest and motivation to learn new technologies and concepts
