STEM Public Affairs Intern

The U.S. Army Garrison - Italy is offering Bachelor's degree level internships at Vicenza/Livorno, Italy.

As an ORISE participant, you will join a community of scientists and researchers in an effort to measure and report command information effectiveness on web and social media platforms as a key component to public communication. You will assess metrics measured from data gathered in social media insights and website analytics to improve PA content and messaging; provide weekly reports; coordinate/consolidate feedback from community members using surveys and other anecdotal collection methods, all to combine with empirical evidence gathered from web/social media analytics. You will also study data associated with content, so the command can gauge the effectiveness of public messages, and in turn, create stronger more effective content. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with other team members to create multimedia content for a variety of online and social media platforms, as well as provide support to the PAO with technical aspects of photo and video production/editing and web/social media posting.

Vicenza/Livorno, Italy

Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidate. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis and internships or fellowships will be filled as qualified candidates are identified.

This appointment is a 12-month research appointment, with the possibility to be renewed for additional research periods. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.

You will receive a stipend to be determined by USAG-Italy. Stipends are typically based on a participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location. Other benefits may include the following:

Responsible for the communication to a variety of audiences through Command Information (websites, social media), Community Relations, (outreach to off-post civic and political leadership) and Media Relations (civilian news/press agencies. The PAO conducts analytical evaluation of communication tools to increase effectiveness of command messaging, to improve communication products to reach intended audiences.

This program, administered by Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and DoD. Participants do not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DoD or any other office or agency. Instead, you will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The qualified candidate will be currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree, or will have earned a Bachelor's degree in the last 5 years.
