Industrial Engineer

Knows and applies fundamental industrial engineering concepts, practices, and
procedures. Works under minimal supervision. Performs tasks that are varied and somewhat complex in nature. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines and standards to perform the functions of the job, which require a limited degree of originality, latitude, and independent judgment.

Job Summary: Applies the fundamental concepts and practices of Industrial Engineering to develop and implement production process design ― routings, operation rates, and work center layouts ― for automotive lighting manufacturing.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Performs work measurement and methods analysis using MOST to support process design, new
production launch, and cost reduction activities
2. Maintains standard routings, operation rates, and work center details through the engineering
change process
3. Ensures routing accuracy from initial input to the end of production, including all engineering
changes and process improvement activities
4. Updates standard work charts as required by engineering changes and process improvements, and
maintains the latest revision in document control through the engineering change process
5. Assists manufacturing and engineering in understanding methods and rates, as well as in
identifying potential causes that lead to low productivity, low utilization of labor or equipment, and/or
missed shipments
6. Performs stopwatch time studies, as required, to verify routing rates
7. Evaluates and investigates ergonomic issues, as required
8. Facilitates IMPACT activities (self-directed, cross-functional, team-based productivity improvement
activity) and conducts IMPACT training, as required
9. Participates in TQIT, mini-improvement, supplier development, and training activities, as required
10. Performs project work as it relates to Industrial Engineering or systems improvement
11. Assists Manufacturing Engineering in the process design and development of new production:
a. Calculates line specifications
b. Performs work measurement, methods analysis, and ergonomic evaluation of labor
c. Identifies process improvements
d. Lays out assembly line
e. Balances assembly line operators and/or operations
f. Develops standard work chart
g. Ensures new production meets process design and NAL production system requirements
prior to start of production
h. Initiates and maintains routings
12. Performs other duties as assigned
