The Cities Program in New York State builds strategies and initiatives to create a healthy, resilient and sustainable urban environment in NYS cities, with a significant focus on New York City. We work with government and non-government partners on key programmatic areas: tackle climate change, improve water quality in and around cities, promote nature and environmental solutions to enhance the quality of life, and reduce urban heat island and air pollution.
 
The Program Analyst plays a key role on the New York State Cities Program team to further The Nature Conservancy’s mission through analysis, strategy/project development and implementation, research, and writing. Some examples of near-term initiatives that the Analyst may work on include: efforts to protect, maintain, and grow NYC’s urban forest; green roof analysis and legislation; and climate adaptation. The Analyst primarily works on the ongoing projects in New York City, while also providing support to projects upstate.
 
The preferred candidate will be a generalist who is familiar with best practices of project management and has strong writing and analysis skills. They should be comfortable with both independent and team-based work, as well as duties that span from day to day coordination to long term project implementation. We are looking for smart, entrepreneurial, and emotionally-intelligent go-getters who can manage and foster solid relationships externally and internally for lasting success. We appreciate collaborative approaches and encourage innovative ideas and recommendations.  
 
The ideal candidate will have a background and track record that includes: 
 
·    Bachelor’s degree in relevant subject and 3 years of related experience or equivalent combination. 
·    Experience supporting complex projects and strategic initiatives in an unstructured environment.                      
·    Analytical and project management experience.
·    Experience researching relevant issues in New York City and/or other cities.
·    Experience writing and editing communications materials for different audiences (e.g., memoranda, technical reports, etc.).
·    Experience advancing collaborative projects, with both internal staff and external stakeholders.
