The Appalachia CARES AmeriCorps Research Assistant is responsible for supporting the team with timely analysis of data, synthesizing secondary research, and providing service to the network through the development of research support materials. The position will work closely with the Vice President of Research and engage with constituents to advance this mission. In addition to the research and development team, the candidate will have the opportunity to interact with Fahe’s Members and other partners. The candidate will work with smart, dedicated colleagues on making a difference in poverty in Appalachia.
 
Envisioned Responsibilities:
  • Participate in meetings with staff, Members, and research partners to formulate research questions and develop workplans. Keep track of news related to research, housing, CDFI industry.
  • Support the research priorities of the Research, Evaluation, Evidence, and Data committee of Fahe Members.
  • Support Member-focused or Member-requested research on housing, economic development, demographics, and community development finance.
  • Assist Research Department in collecting and sharing information related to new research findings, with a focus on supporting local communities with access to data analysis and reporting.
  • Serve as a member of the research team, utilizing particular expertise in one (or more) of the following areas: data analytics, GIS, qualitative research, impact evaluation and measurement.
  • Develop shared data and impact reports that document progress toward thriving Appalachian communities.
  • Contribute as a member of the Development department through the Research, Evaluation, Evidence and Data (REED) committee.
  • Create content (i.e. infographics, blogs) that communicates the impact of investment in Member communities and throughout Fahe’s Network as we build the American Dream.
  • Fulfill all requirements of the Appalachia CARES / AmeriCorps service program
 
Qualifications:
Enrollment in an undergraduate degree program or recent graduate with training in data analysis (e.g. social science research methods or business analytics); Bachelor’s Degree preferred (field open if research coursework/experience is documented). Previous work as a research assistant; experience, coursework, or interest in development studies, non-profit administration, or a related field.
 
Preferred: Intermediate skills in software such as Tableau, R, SPSS, Stata; ArcGIS, Tableau.
 
Required: Competence in Microsoft office software such as Outlook, Word, Powerpoint and remote conferencing software such as Zoom.
 
Note on Geography: This position is open in Bristol, TN or another county northeast Tennessee consistent with Appalachia Cares / AmeriCorps service program. The Appalachia CARES program is a grant funded AmeriCorps program through the Corporation for National and Community Service. The grant is awarded by Volunteer Tennessee located in Nashville, TN. The program is locally sponsored by Clinch-Powell.
