The Paid Intern is an entry level position designed to provide graduate and undergraduate student with an insider’s view of the realm of international development at IFES. Participants in this program will develop essential skills that are not attained in the academic world and enable them to make the transition from academic to professional life. As a junior member of the team, this Paid Intern will provide logistical and administrative support to projects for the Finance team. This internship position reports to the Senior Finance Administrator.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:                                            
The general duties of the intern will include but are not limited to:
  • Supporting the Accounting-Payroll team with assignments related to his/her course work
  • Supporting team with analysis and research on various Accounting assignments as these relate to donor rules/regulations and IFES policies such as but not limited to audit preparation, review and reconciliation of monthly field expense reports, financial reports, etc.
  • Review and processing of weekly Labor.
  • Review and processing of bi-weekly payroll.
  • Registration of IFES with various states.
  • Helping prepare financial documents as needed;
  • Attending and report on internal and external meetings and other discussions about assigned projects;
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

POSITION SCOPE: Provides the support necessary for the team to achieve its goals. Job duties are fairly straight forward and require following common procedures and guidelines. Can manage own workload, time and priorities with close guidance from supervisor so as to facilitate a learning environment per internship guidelines.
DECISION MAKING/PROBLEM SOLVING: Has the knowledge and skills to identify solutions to routine problems. Produces useful ideas or explanations for circumstances, but may need guidance or approval on execution for results.  
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY: None. Can assist in or have exposure to preparing routine financial reports and processing routine transaction in compliance with IFES policies and procedures. 
RELATIONSHIPS: Maintains collaborative working relationship with team members and other staff within the Division.  
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None
 
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Recent graduate with degree completion no older than 12 months at time of application or undergraduate/graduate student currently enrolled at an accredited college or university. Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
Experience: Experience handling multiple tasks/projects. Experience with basic Microsoft software tools. Prior internship experience or familiarity with an NGO a plus.
Related Skills or Knowledge: Excellent research, analytical, writing, and organization skills. Proficiency with MS Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Experience with preparing financial documents preferred. Familiarity with web-based applications a plus. Experience handling sensitive information in a secure and confidential manner preferred. Introductory experience in or familiarity with program development or management, NGOs, and/or USAID a plus. Detail oriented. Ability to prioritize, take direction, and handle varied tasks within deadlines. Strong communicator, both verbally and in writing. Collaborative, team oriented individual. Excellent interpersonal skills including ability to interact professionally with a culturally diverse staff.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: English required. Proficiency in another language a plus.
