Human Resources Assistant (Information Systems) - Recent Graduates

Summary

Are you looking for a unique work experience in the federal service? This position is part of the DFAS Recent Graduates Program. The DFAS Pathways/Recent Graduates Program is a developmental program that provides the opportunity to gain knowledge, skills and abilities needed to pursue a successful career with DFAS and to explore possibilities for growth and learning.

Position will be filled at a GS-04 with a full performance level of GS-05.

Duty location is Indianapolis, IN.


Responsibilities


At the Full Performance Level, a Human Resources Assistant (INS) may perform the following duties involving providing support to one or more HR functional areas. Duties assigned to the entry level (GS-04) will be developmental in nature.

Updates and verifies information in both automated and hard copy personnel and training files in accordance with documented standards.

Enters, extracts, reviews, and summarizes information relative to the functions and processes of the automated human resource and support systems such as e-OPF, DCPDS. Identifies errors and corrects as needed.

Processes a variety of personnel actions including promotions, separations, benefits elections, pay related adjustments and changes in employee data.

Receives and answers telephonic, automated and written inquiries concerning current or former employees, position records, training history, benefits information and related data, or information related to one or more aspects of basic HR operations.

Works with, and provides assistance to, other staff members and customers concerning employee and position records, training information, and the processing of personnel actions.

Receive requests for specific information from OPFs and uses knowledge of system to determine where to search for and release ability of information in accordance with the Privacy Act.

Prepares a variety of regular and special reports related to various HR programs and activities requiring searching for, locating, abstracting, setting up formats and preparing final form.

Qualifications


Eligibility Requirements:
  • Obtained a qualifying Associates, Bachelor's Master's, Professional, Doctorate, Vocational or Technical Degree or Certificate from a qualifying educational institution, within the previous 2 years, or will receive it on or before September 1, 2021.
  • A veteran (as defined in 5 U.S.C. 2108) who completed the requirements for an Associates, Bachelor's Master's, Professional, Doctorate, Vocational or Technical Degree or Certificate after December 27, 2010 and due to military service obligation, was precluded from applying to a Recent Graduates Program during my 2 year eligibility period AND it is less than 6 years from the date on which they completed the academic requirements of a degree or certificate.
  • You must submit a transcript to verify completion, or anticipated completion of an academic program, with the application package.
  • If selected, you must sign a Pathways Participant Agreement.
