Database Administrator (IS Information/Technical Analyst IV)

Performs very complex programming work requiring an expert understanding of the City/SPRWS information technology infrastructure. Consults with customers as a business partner in planning all aspects of information technology projects to meet future needs. Ensures the proper configuration, efficiency, and security of City/SPRWS applications. Assists with staff members in developing and implementing technical solutions. Establishes procedural standards and guidelines for work projects. Maintains knowledge of best practices. Performs other related work as assigned.
Information Specific to this Position: 
The position manages multiple databases for St Paul Regional Water Services (SPRWS) development and production environments. This position is responsible for database creation, organization, installation, data migration, maintenance, support, backup and restoration of the database environments and its applications.
 
 Primary Responsibilities 
  • Administer, maintain, configure and update MS SQL and Oracle databases 
  • Monitor system's health and performance 
  • Analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time 
  • Assist developers with query tuning and schema refinement 
  • Develop processes for optimizing database security 
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot database errors 
  • Assist with maintaining, administering, monitoring and troubleshooting server and storage infrastructure 
  • Maintain and monitor data and application backups 
  • Prepare, review and maintain technical documentation and Standard Operating Procedures 
  • Prepare comprehensive project proposals and plans 
  • Consults with customers as a business partner in planning all aspects of information technology projects to meet future needs 
The eligible list created from this assessment will also be used to fill IS Information/Technical Analyst IV positions as they become available in various departments within the City.

 Requirements:A Bachelor's Degree in Information Management, Computer Technology, or a related field and four (4) years of work experience related to the vacancy OR
A vacancy-related technical school certificate and six (6) years of work experience related to the vacancy.

May require a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License, or equivalent out-of-state driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications/Skills: 
  • Strong command of SQL and SQL server tools 
  • Advanced knowledge of database security, backup and recovery, and performance monitoring standards 
  • Understanding of relational and dimensional data modeling 
  • PowerShell and Unix shell scripting skills 
  • Familiarity with SSAS, SSIS, SSRS

The Qualifications Rating is an assessment of your completed application, answers to the Supplemental Questionnaire, and your resume. GENERAL INFORMATION: 

Eligible Lists created from Open Job Posting: This job posting is open to anyone who meets the position requirements. Non-promotion eligible lists typically are pass/fail and promotion eligible lists are typically ranked. Those who pass the assessment will be placed on an eligible list for approximately one year. If the open eligible list created contains a veteran, one open list will exist. When there are no veterans remaining on the eligible list (i.e. hired, withdrawn) from an open list that also contains promotional candidates, two lists will be created: one open list and one promotion list. If two lists exist, the promotion list must be exhausted before the open list is considered.

Final Selection Process: You must receive a score of 75% or higher to pass the assessment and be considered for the position. Those who pass will be placed on an eligible list and all will be notified of their status. A Hiring Manager will consider those applicants eligible for hire. You will be notified if you are invited to participate in the final selection process which may include an interview, job simulation, work sample submission, or other evaluation method. 
 
Condition of Employment: This position requires a driver’s license check, drug test, and a background check which may include criminal history, and employment history as a condition of employment.
