The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry is seeking a Specialist at the Junior, Assistant, Associate and/or Full rank, in the laboratory of Dr. Pamela England. The position revolves around developing and characterizing the activity of small molecules targeting nuclear receptors involved in neurodegeneration (e.g. Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, ALS-FTD, retinal degeneration). The critical functions associated with the position include (1) performing various cellular assays (e.g. qPCR, luciferase reporter assays) to evaluate the activity of small molecules targeting nuclear receptors, (2) overexpressing and purifying nuclear receptor ligand binding domain proteins and performing biochemical and biophysical assays (e.g. MST, DSF, SPR, FRET) evaluating the affinity and effects of small molecules on the nuclear receptors, (3) synthesis of small molecules. Candidates are expected to be an expert in at least one of these areas.

Required Qualifications:

  • Specialists appointed at the Junior rank must possess a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of experience in the relevant specialization
  • Specialists appointed at the Assistant and Associate rank must possess a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or at least five years of experience in the relevant specialization
  • Specialists appointed at the Full rank must possess a terminal degree (or equivalent degree) or ten or more years of experience in the relevant specialization
  • Applicants must possess the required qualifications by the time of the appointment
