Program Overview:  

The Sallie Mae Internship program seeks to attract and develop exceptional early talent while adding value to our organization. Our goal is to tie academic learning into a practical business setting while fostering professional and personal growth within a student’s area of focus.   

   

Over the course of the semester, interns will gain exposure to senior leaders, attend meetings, work alongside mentors, and receive valuable performance feedback. 

 

Position Summary:

The Fraud Prevention taskforce incumbents will assist the fraud team in reviewing fraud trends in our student loan population.  The primary function will be to review ad hoc reports to help identify fraud red flags to reduce the incidence of fraud and reduce fraud related losses.  The intern will work directly with the fraud prevention manager in reviewing several daily reports and investigate fraud trends to detect deceitful activity and prevent perpetrators from benefiting off student loan fraud, thus mitigating financial losses.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review daily fraud ad hoc reports and identify fraud red flags to research 
  • Initiate investigation of suspect fraud accounts using internal Sallie Mae systems and third-party verification sources 
  • Victim outreach may be required for gather identity theft information 
  • Work directly with fraud manager to request additional or alter current reports based on fraud trends
  • Status current loans in our platform if fraudulent activity is evident  

 

Education:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university
  • Open to Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors  
  • Maintains a GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Criminal Justice major is preferred 

 

Experience:

  • Available to work up to 40 hours per week between 6/03/24 and 8/23/2024 – Summer

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills with individuals at all levels.
  • Ability to do extensive research and analyze trends and communicate effectively to management 
  • Excellent administrative skills including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and web-based applications.
  • Strong follow through and multi-tasking skills, and attention to detail.
  • Local candidates strongly preferred
  • This position requirement is to come into the office two days a week
