Registered Nurse Critical Care Unit

Critical Care Unit 3 Tower

Overview of Position:

 

Our 24- bed Critical Care Unit provides optimal care to trauma, surgical, respiratory and cardiac patients. The CCU RN must work successfully in a fast paced environment while caring for critically ill patients. The incumbent must utilize quick critical thinking skills and be a strong patient advocate. The RN plans, provides and/or supervises the nursing care of patients in an efficient and caring manner. The individual must adhere to universal precautions, and be compliant with infection control policies. The CCU RN works independently with minimal supervision and collaborates with physicians and other disciplines to ensure quality patient care. Once experienced in the CCU, the RN has the ability to become relief charge nurse, care for CVVHD, IABP, and be a member of the open heart recovery team.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1.    Provides direct patient care in accordance with physician orders in a warm and friendly manner.
2.    Takes and records measurements or readings.
3.    Assesses condition and provides treatment for care of patient.
4.    Administers prescribed medications.
5.    Provides leadership while working collaboratively with other care givers on the unit.
6.    Participates in keeping unit prepared for HFAP on an ongoing basis. 
7.    Assists with patient rounds

 

QUALIFICATIONS
1.    Current Ohio RN License and ADN.
2.    CPR certification within 30 days of employment.
3.    Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification (ACLS) within one year of employment in CCU.
4.    One year experience in acute care setting.
5.    Ability to read, write and explain or describe moderately complex information to other hospital staff.
6.    Attention to detail.
7.    Ability to communicate well in an oral and written manner, as well as the ability to observe, assess, guide, and evaluate others
8.    Ability to read, calculate and prepare medication, as well as the ability to observe and analyze any resulting reactions and to apply clinical knowledge.
9.    Ability to collect data, interpret findings, set priorities and carry out established plan
10.    Demonstrates competence in age-specific patient care as documented by the attached checklist.

3.    Promotes Patient and Employee Safety

• Demonstrates safe Materials Handling (i.e. appropriate use and disposal of chemicals, infectious wastes, etc.)
• Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of Infectious Disease precautions and use of proper protective equipment
• Demonstrates Slips/Trips and Falls Awareness.
• Actively contributes to maintaining a safe, clean and quiet environment.
