Activities and Recreation Specialist, Program Staff

Camp Mak-A-Dream provides camp programs for children and families impacted by cancer. We aim to empower survivors and their families to live with and beyond cancer through life-changing Montana experiences where they strengthen life skills, gain resilience, and develop lasting relationships. It is not required to have previous experience working with cancer survivors to serve on our staff.  

Benefits: $4,650 for the summer (10 weeks) plus room and board. 

Activities and Recreation Specialist Responsibilities:   

  • Work with the rest of the Program Staff to lead, coordinate and facilitate camp activities and programs (butte hike, horses, archery, field games, large group games and activities, etc.). 
  • Act as a lead facilitator for all ropes course activities and follow all ropes course safety guidelines. 
  • Develop camp activities and programs that are safe and inclusive. 
  • Learn and assist in implementation of Camp emergency procedures.  
  • Provide guidance and encouragement to all campers, volunteers, and staff to enhance a supportive environment.  

Essential Skills and Qualifications 

  • Previous experience working with children, teens, and/or young adults preferred. 
  • Previous experience planning and leading group programs is preferred. 
  • Leadership experience and/or skills: Program Staff plan and lead all camp session activities for the 40-50 participants on site each week. 
  • Experience working in a team setting, strong communication skills: We hire a team of 15 summer staff who must work in close collaboration to implement programs in a safe and fun manner. 
  • Critical thinking and problem solving: Camp staff must think on their feet - from resolving camper safety and risk management issues to facilitating a group of campers in creating a talent show performance.
