Waterfront Specialist

Waterfront Specialists work as a team to organize and implement a safe, comprehensive and fun waterfront program geared toward the interests and abilities of campers. Waterfront refers to all boating, swimming, and fishing programs at Camp.

Required Qualifications:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Ability to live on-site
  • Certification in First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and Lifeguard (we provide a lifeguarding course!)
  • Sufficient visual, auditory, communication and cognitive abilities to coordinate, teach, and communicate with groups participating in the Waterfront program

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in working with children and adults who have disabilities
  • Leadership experience
  • Valid Driver’s License

Essential Functions:

  • Provide guidance, supervision and leadership to a cabin group of 6 to 8 campers per week.
  • Ability to work with people of differing abilities to provide a safe camp experience.
  • Ability to receive and follow general instructions; plan, lead and participate in meaningful activities; and assist the Camp in meeting camper goals and objectives to ensure a positive camping experience for each camper.
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn effective discipline techniques, behavior management plans and strategies for working with children with disabilities.
  • Contribute to a positive camp atmosphere by being respectful to others, the Camp and yourself.
  • Ability to use effective and appropriate self-care practices for maintaining overall wellness.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Develop waterfront activities that are appropriate for the intended audience, utilizing overall camp goals and communication with counselors regarding their campers.Supervise all lifeguards and lookouts during the free waterfront period.
  • Live with and supervise a group of 6 to 8 campers with other staff. This requires staff to be a positive role model for campers and other staff members.
  • Assume responsibility for each camper’s safety and social, emotional, mental and physical well-being.
  • Assume responsibility for camper supervision, behavior management and camp programming as assigned.
  • Help each camper grow and adjust to other campers and to Camp life.
  • Work with administrative staff to manage camper behaviors, use effective discipline techniques and ask for further assistance as needed.
  • Lead and prepare activities with other staff, while encouraging camper participation in all activities.
  • Complete weekly progress reports, feedback form, camper awards and other needed paperwork with the assistance of other staff as needed in a timely and professional manner.
  • Know when to ask for assistance and support fellow staff.
