Arts Specialist

Arts Specialists will work as a team to organize and implement a safe, comprehensive and fun Arts program geared to the interests and abilities of campers.

Required Qualifications:

• 18 years of age or older
• Ability to live on-site
• Sufficient visual, auditory, communication and cognitive abilities to teach and communicate with groups participating in the Arts program

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in working with children and adults with disabilities
• Leadership experience
• Lifeguard and CPR, AED, and First Aid certification (we provide a course!)
• Valid Driver’s License

Essential Functions:

• Provide guidance, supervision and leadership to a cabin group of 6 to 8 campers per week.
• Ability to work with people of differing abilities to provide a safe camp experience.
• Ability to receive and follow general instructions; plan, lead and participate in meaningful activities; and assist the Camp in meeting camper goals and objectives to ensure a positive camping experience for each camper.
• Knowledge or willingness to learn effective discipline techniques, behavior management plans and strategies for working with children with disabilities.
• Contribute to a positive camp atmosphere by being respectful to others, the Camp and yourself.
• Ability to use effective and appropriate self-care practices for maintaining overall wellness.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Develop Arts activities that are appropriate for the intended audience, utilizing overall camp goals and communication with counselors regarding their campers.
• Lead Arts activities during activity periods. Lead other activities as assigned by the administrative staff.
• Live with a group of 6 to 8 campers. This requires the Arts Specialist to be a positive role model for the campers and other staff members.
• Assume responsibility for each camper’s safety and social, emotional, mental and physical well-being.
• Assume responsibility for camper supervision, behavior management and camp programming as assigned.
• Help each camper grow and adjust to other campers and to Camp life.
• Work with administrative staff to manage camper behaviors, use effective discipline techniques and ask for further assistance as needed.
• Lead and prepare activities with other staff, while encouraging camper participation in all activities.
• Complete weekly progress reports, feedback form, camper awards and other needed paperwork with the assistance of other staff as needed in a timely and professional manner.
• Know when to ask for assistance and support fellow staff.
