Policy & Elections Organizer - Paid Internship

Campaign Organizer

Ohio Citizen Action (OCA) is the premier grassroots mobilizing and organizing team in the Midwest. Ohio Citizen Action educates, organizes and mobilizes people to advocate for public interests. In person, by phone, and online, we engage people in actions that protect public health, improve environmental quality, and benefit consumers. Our campaigns connect Ohioans and build a movement to protect democracy and create a sustainable future.

We understand that informed and engaged citizens create the best possible hedge against abuses of government and corporate power, which lie at the heart of most injustice. Therefore, public education and engagement form the foundation of our success. For more than 45 years, we’ve developed our outreach model to integrate field canvassing and follow-up phone canvassing with online organizing.  Through each of these methods, we educate people on a particular issue, urge them to take a specific action.

Responsibilities

  • Communicating effectively to community members who will work with us to hold politicians accountable for their actions on environmental, consumer, and public health related issues.
  • Ensuring, by grassroots organizing and fundraising, that communities are made aware of the issues and given the tools to participate in the solutions.
  • Taking part in staff meetings & training, campaign briefings, and organizational events.
  • Willingness to learn in depth about the issues we work on, in preparation to be a knowledgeable and effective organizer.

We look for candidates who have strong communication skills and who possess good attention to detail. Candidates should have an interest in environmental issues, politics, or non-profit work. We do provide extensive training on the job responsibilities and on the issues we cover.

Our Commitment to Diversity
