Opioid Abatement Fund Council Intern

TEMPORARY POSITION
Summer Internship Position will begin June 1, 2024 and end August 9, 2024 (40 hours per week).


PLEASE NOTE:

General description
Performs entry-level clerical work and research in areas such as projects related to the Opioid Abatement Fund Council (OAFC), including access, use and funding of opioid use disorder abatement programs. Assists the OAFC staff with new and ongoing OAFC programs through research, writing, data analysis, legislative monitoring and other assigned duties. Potential for off-site training depending on divisional needs. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. 


Work Hours
40 hours a week between the hours of 7 a.m. – 6 p.m., with occasional evening and weekend hours.  Hours may change based on business needs. 

Teleworking may be considered if certain working conditions are met. Applicant will be required to work in office up to 3 days/week, days may vary. The applicant may need to report to the office with little notice, as business necessitates. Travel reimbursements are not provided for teleworking.

Minimum Qualifications 
• Currently enrolled as a Junior or Senior at an accredited college or university, or a recent graduate within one year. 
• Professional or academic experience in research and planning, data analysis and/or policy development relating to general government programs.


Preferred Qualifications 
• Currently enrolled as a Junior or Senior at an accredited college or university, or a recent graduate within one year with major or coursework in public administration, government, public policy, statistics, social work, psychology, communications, public administration, public health or related field. 
• Be in good academic standing (minimum 3.0 GPA). Must submit transcripts.
• 1 year of experience in research and planning, data analysis and/or policy development relating to general government programs. 


In this role you will:
• Assists with research, writing, data entry/analysis, statistical analysis and updating division reports, websites and databases. Assists in meetings and developing content for stakeholder engagement, including public and private agencies, local governments, elected officials and general public, 
• Participates in short-term assignments with other Comptroller divisions such as Communications & Information Services, Fiscal Management and Texas Treasury Safekeeping Trust Company.
• Ensures accuracy, consistency and effectiveness by reviewing, editing and proofing data and various reports and materials for internal and external use.
• Provides assistance and administration of community engagement projects and programs, council meetings and other related programs.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
