Engineer Structural 1 (36190)

THE ROLE

NNS, a division of HII, is seeking an ambitious, strategic and honorable entry level engineer to join our team of highly motivated individuals.  The ideal candidate should have effective analytical, problem-solving, conceptual, administrative, and communication skills.  New engineers will be trained by their fellow shipbuilders and learn how to apply fundamental engineering principles and techniques to solve critical problems.  With the assistance of team lead engineers, entry level engineers will perform engineering calculations, analysis, research and development as part of routine assignments that are designed to develop familiarity with equipment, procedures and systems.   We are a company dedicated to the mission and safety of our country.  Our engineers work in a fast paced environment, adapt to challenges, and design, build and overhaul nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and submarines for the United States Navy.  These are some of the most technologically advanced warships in the world which are employed to protect our country’s freedom. Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of HII, is now offering a $2,000 sign-on bonus to all entry-level (Engineer 1) new hires.   

 

NNS utilizes cutting edge technology and techniques to achieve these goal such as, but not limited to: additive manufacturing, augmented/virtual reality, and robotics.  Our state-of-the-art laboratory, known as the Virginia Advanced Shipbuilding Carrier Integration Center, houses diverse research and design testing facilities. 

 

NNS is in search of a diversely skilled engineer to support the research, development of structural engineering specification involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design and/or operation.  Analyzes damage tolerances, durability and design allowables.  Our engineers use software tools such as CATIA, IDEAS and ProEngineer to assist in the specific structural engineering specialties like:

 

  • Dynamics and loads
  • Stability and stress fatigue
  • Thermal analysis


Position Responsibilities:

  • Perform engineering calculations, analysis, research, and design
  • Provide engineering support to designers and tradesmen
  • Analyzes damage tolerances, durability and design allowable.
  • Provide technical recommendations and documents to internal and external customers
  • Effectively communicate and engage with team members

 

MUST HAVE

0 Years with Bachelors in Science- Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
