Counselors will foster relationships with campers ranging in ages from 4 to 13 years old as they engage in the Sherman Laker experience by building positive relationships, discovering their own strengths and interests and engage in a variety of camp activities. The schedule will include things like swimming, archery, fire building, teambuilding, arts and crafts, rock climbing and so much more.  By challenging themselves at activities, campers will learn about themselves and others by working together, cheering others on, having and resolving conflicts and other pivotal life skills.  Counselors make all of the difference by promoting, teaching and role modeling the development of confidence, independence and HCRR.  

Day Camp Counselors, along with their co-counselor will be responsible for facilitating a variety of activities for their group of campers throughout their day. Groups are created based on the age of campers; campers close in age are in groups together and group sizes are smaller as the age of campers is younger.  Day Camp Counselors will serve as a counselor at one of our transportation locations and ride the bus to camp.  Our transportation locations Sherman Lake YMCA, Portage, Kalamazoo or Battle Creek.

Certifications required prior to start date - CPR, First Aid. Lifeguard training is available. All certification training is provided at Sherman Lake YMCA.
