POSITION SUMMARY:
 
Under the direction of the Clinical Social Worker Supervisor, the Clinical Social Worker will provide outpatient behavioral health and crisis intervention services to Sault Tribe members, their dependents and other eligible Native Americans. Out patient services include screening, intake and orientation, assessment, treatment, education, discharge planning, counseling and crisis intervention services. The position is responsible for providing prevention services to groups and individuals, professional consultation and other community services related to behavioral health issues. The successful candidate must be able to provide clinical services to persons with, or at high risk of developing, addictive disorders. The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) responsibilities include providing brief therapy, case management, service coordination and crisis intervention support services to the Sault Tribe's governmental, casino and enterprise employees.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (includes, but is not limited to, the following)
 
  • Counsels individuals, families, groups and couples.
  • Documents client needs and progress notes.
  • Develops diagnostic impressions according to DSM criteria.
  • Develops treatment and continuing care plans in conjunction with clients.
  • Consults with referral sources regarding clinical recommendations and client progress, if appropriate authorizations are in place.
  • Determines appropriate therapies and implements those therapies for client needs and presenting challenges.
  • Conducts case management services as an advocate for clients.
  • Determines when discharge from clinical programming is appropriate.
  • Determines the appropriate level of care for clients according to American Science of Addiction Medicine II criteria.

  • Attends and participates in team meetings.
  • Performs prevention/community education activities.
  • All other job related duties as assigned.

Immediate peers, peers in other departments, immediate supervisor/manager, managers in other departments, executives, Board of Directors, customers and outside vendors/service providers.
 
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
 
Position sedentary with primarily sitting/lifting of maximum of 10 pounds. Physical factors include constant use of near/field of vision; frequent sitting, use of midrange vision, typing and bending; and occasional walking, standing, carrying/lifting, stooping, reaching, manual handling, use of smell, and depth perception. Working conditions include occasional exposure to noise. Potential hazards include constant patient/client contact; frequent computer use; and occasional exposure to chemicals, equipment and infectious exposure.
 
REQUIREMENTS:
 
Education: Master of Social Work from an accredited university preferred. Other disciplines that may be considered: Master degree in counseling or doctoral degree in psychology, if able to be licensed to work independently.
 
Experience: Minimum of 1 year therapy experience required, 2 years preferred, with high risk populations including mental health and substance use disorders.
 
Certification/License: Must be licensed within one of these respective professions in the State of Michigan or be able to obtain licensing within 90 days of hire: Social Work, Psychology, or Professional Counseling. Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC) Certification preferred. Certified Addictions Professional preferred. Registered Play Therapist preferred. Certified Prevention Specialist preferred. Child and Adolescent Specialist preferred. Must have willingness to obtain CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification. Will be required to undergo and successfully pass a background check. Must maintain a good moral character standing. Will be required to complete and pass pre-employment drug testing.
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   Knowledge of Play Therapy, Group Therapy, Co-occurring Therapy and CBT/REBT/DBT/Trauma oriented Therapies/Mindfulness preferred. Must be able to make clients comfortable in sharing personal information. Must have working knowledge and be able to use word processing and spreadsheet and data base software. Must have excellent communication skills and be able to communicate clearly in person, in writing, and by telephone and email. Must be able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with supervisory personnel, coworkers and the general public. Must be able to work in a high stress environment and handle difficult situations. Must maintain confidentiality of highly personal information. Must have excellent organization skills; organizing work, prioritizing tasks and managing time. Native American preferred.
