Environment, Health, and Safety Intern

Our EHS Internship Program is designed to provide challenging EHS assignments to university students who are pursuing a degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Fire Protection or Environmental Science. Candidates will complete their internship at a designated US location and will work with an experienced mentor during their assignment. During this time, candidates will learn our EHS Management Systems and culture and be exposed to driving EHS success in a Howmet location.  Our internship program has helped develop successful EHS professionals and upon graduation, may lead to placement as an EHS Professional in Howmet’s full time EHS Development Program. 

Activities completed during our EHS internship program are designed to provide practical application of techniques and contribute to business results. Typical activities may include:

  • Assist with development and implementation of EHS policy and procedures
  • Conduct fatality prevention assessments
  • Conduct industrial hygiene and ventilation assessments
  • Assist with development and implementation of sustainability initiatives
  • Conduct environmental compliance related activities
  • Develop and conduct employee training
  • Develop and implement fire prevention and protection procedures

 

*Qualifications for Internal Candidates

 

 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Candidates must be pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Candidates must have completed at least 2 years of study towards their degree program.
  • Candidates must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Essential Skills:

  • Excellent initiative, learning orientation and attention to detail. 
  • Strong communication, analytical, problem solving and human relations skills.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative manner.

 

Other important details: EHS internships are paid positions and housing assistance is provided. PPE is provided.

This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status.  ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e., 'Green Card Holder'). Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Relocation assistance provided. Expected travel is less than 5%.
