Tulane University Medical School Lab Technician

Job Description: We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented individual to join our biochemical laboratory team as a Lab Technician. The successful candidate will assist in various laboratory tasks related to biochemical research and analysis. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge scientific discoveries and advance our understanding of biochemical processes.

Responsibilities:

Sample Preparation: Prepare samples for analysis by following established protocols and procedures. This may include weighing, measuring, diluting, and mixing reagents and samples.

Instrument Operation: Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments such as spectrophotometers, chromatography systems, centrifuges, and pipetting devices. Ensure equipment is calibrated and functioning properly.

Data Collection and Analysis: Record experimental data accurately and meticulously. Assist in the analysis of experimental results using basic statistical methods and software tools.

Quality Control: Perform routine quality control checks on laboratory equipment, reagents, and supplies. Maintain cleanliness and organization in the laboratory workspace.

Experimental Support: Assist researchers and scientists in conducting experiments and carrying out research projects. Follow experimental protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and reproducibility.

Inventory Management: Monitor laboratory supplies and reagent levels. Assist in ordering and restocking supplies as needed. Keep accurate records of inventory and usage.

Safety Compliance: Adhere to laboratory safety protocols and regulations at all times. Follow proper procedures for handling, storing, and disposing of hazardous materials and waste.

Documentation: Maintain detailed records of experimental procedures, observations, and results. Prepare reports and presentations summarizing findings as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Prior laboratory experience is preferred but not required.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in basic laboratory techniques and procedures.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Familiarity with laboratory safety practices and procedures.
  •
