Operations Management Intern

As the Operations Management intern you will optimize the bulk item handling process throughout the plant using data analysis.  During this internship you will learn how to identify and correctly set up the bulk items. You will develop a robust ordering process to assist and support the Operations department in successfully achieving manufacturing goals.

 

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

Projects & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify bulk items.
  • Update and correct inventory system.
  • Analyze and categorize parts based part usage, location, commonality, size, and frequency.
  • Optimize the layout a new store room for efficiency based on analysis.
  • Collaborates with associates addressing concerns.
  • Assist in the direct activities of production management personnel.
  • Review, update, and create Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).
  • Assist in the continuous improvement techniques including Kaizen events and 5S.
  • All other duties or projects as assigned.
  • Interns will typically support one or more operations professionals in performance of assignments, spend time shadowing, and have unique assignments that support larger projects as well as experience the day-to-day workings of Operations.

 

What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:

Required Experience and Education

  • Student working towards a Bachelor’s degree in in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain/Operations Management, Business or related field.
  • Candidates must have completed their second year of studies.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite – Excel.
  • Must be eager to learn, self-motivated, flexible and accountable.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Company will not provide sponsorship for position. Must be eligible to work in US.

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills to evaluate business scenario and apply knowledge to identify appropriate solutions.
  • Effective communication skills.

Travel & Working Environment

  • Manufacturing Environment frequently require use of foot and eye protection when in production areas.
