Legal Office Assistant

The Minnehaha County State's Attorney's Office is excited to invite passionate individuals to join our team as a Legal Office Assistant. As a vital member of our dynamic team of legal professionals, you'll play a crucial role in the justice system. Our office is home to 11 passionate Legal Office Assistants who play a pivotal role in supporting attorneys with legal document preparation and the arrangement of legal proceedings.

As a Legal Office Assistant, you'll have the opportunity to make an impact on our community. Your role will involve preparing and disseminating legal documents, assisting with legal proceedings, and supporting top prosecutorial attorneys in adult criminal cases, juvenile criminal cases, and abuse and neglect cases.

The hiring range for this position is $20.80/hr to $22.95/hr with a full earning potential of $30.14/hr.

SALARY: $20.80 - $22.95 Hourly

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Preparing and disseminating a wide range of legal documents, including letters, orders, complaints, warrants, summonses, motions, subpoenas, and briefs.
  • Handling phone calls, welcoming clients, and assisting walk-in visitors with their inquiries.
  • Taking and transcribing notes and dictation, ensuring accurate records.
  • Managing the copying, filing, and routing of legal documents for streamlined operations.
  • Maintaining and updating scheduling calendars, facilitating smooth legal proceedings.
  • Communicating with witnesses, victims, and grand jury members, keeping them informed of changes and updates in legal proceedings.
  • Preparing the grand jury room for proceedings to ensure everything runs smoothly.
  • Creating, preparing, and maintaining files and information for the attorneys you support.
  • Efficiently distributing and tracking files, reports, and case information.
  • Maintaining meticulous records and statistics for organizational purposes.
  • Handling incoming and outgoing mail to keep our operations running seamlessly.

Legal Office Assistant

What You Need to Succeed in this Role

High school diploma or GED plus two years of general secretarial work. Comparable combination of education and experience may be considered. Must successfully complete pre-employment background process. Working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures. Skill in operating a personal computer accurately and with reasonable speed. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public. Ability to maintain professional appearance and demeanor.
