Communication and Civic Engagement Specialist- Open Access Connections

The LVC fellow will aid us in advancing our mission of providing communication and civic engagement to the homeless and low-income community.

Position Description
The LVC fellow will work directly with homeless and low-income people to help meet the community’s immediate communication needs, as well as help mobilize the homeless and low-income community on issues affecting their community.  The LVC fellow will help coordinate our Grassroots Outreach program, which will organize low-income volunteers to help distribute our free Community Voice Mail and Lifeline-supported cell phones.  They will guide our Generation 50+ Group, which is composed of older people with a history of homelessness, in identifying policy issues and mobilizing in coalition campaigns.  They assist in a peer-led non-partisan voter engagement campaign that will engage the homeless and low-income community in the 2024 Election.

Job Responsibilities
Grassroots Outreach (30%): The LVC fellow will collaborate with 6 low-income Grassroots Outreach Workers to help meet the immediate communication needs of the low-income community.  Regular outreach will be performed at multiple homeless shelters, meal programs, and other community centers that serve the low-income community.  

Non-Partisan Voter Engagement Campaign: (20%) The LVC fellow will work with Generation 50+ Group members and Grassroots Outreach workers in leading a peer- led non-partisan voter engagement campaign.  The LVC fellow will help register and pledge 400 homeless and low-income people to vote.

Generation 50+ Assistance: (20%) The Generation 50+ Group is composed of older people with a history of homelessness.  The LVC fellow will help organize and plan monthly Generation 50+ meetings, help members identify an agenda, and help connect Generation 50+ members with coalition partner efforts.  

Coalition Advocacy Collaboration: (10%) The LVC fellow will attend meetings of coalition partners and help bring the needs of clients within these Coalition partners meetings.

Event Planning (10%): The LVC will help in the planning and organizing our Annual Walk by collecting door prizes, tracking donations, and completing event logistics.  The JV will also help plan Board Meetings and the Annual Board Retreat.

Social Media & Marketing: (10%) Post social media posts, update marketing materials, and create Community Voice Mail broadcasts that inform the homeless and low-income community, as well as advance advocacy campaigns.
