Mechanical Building Systems Engineering Summer Internship 2025
Naval Nuclear Laboratory has internship opportunities for college students to spend the summer of 2025 getting great work experience, in great locations, supporting the world's greatest Navy.
The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is looking for a Mechanical Building Systems Engineering intern to join our team! Our team is responsible for the engineering effort required for successful upkeep and advancement of mechanical building systems at our West Milton, NY campus. Typical work within this role includes system upgrades, facility renovations, and site infrastructure improvements to meet the site needs to support the US Navy. In this role, you will:
- Provide dedicated expertise in engineering, configuring, and operating mechanical systems such as HVAC, steam and condensate, compressed air, plumbing, and radiological ventilation.
- Lead efforts to plan, design, and oversee the reconfiguration, maintenance, and alteration of system equipment, machinery, buildings, structures, office environments and other facilities.
Program highlights include:

The NNL Internship is an approximate 10-12 week program starting in May/June 2025.
An internship position may result in a return internship or full-time employment offer upon successful completion of the program.
Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
Candidates for Mechanical Building Systems Engineering Internship positions must be:
- Pursuing Mechanical Engineering or related BS, MS or PhD degree from an accredited college or university
- Must have completed at least first full year of college by May 2025
- Enrolled/continuing in a degree program throughout this internship

Preferred Skills
- Cumulative minimum GPA 3.2/4.0
- Prior related internship, co-op or work experience (paid or volunteer)
- Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Defense (DOD) or Naval Nuclear Program experience
