Air Resources Technician I

The Enforcement Division's (ED) Equipment Registration Section (ERS) is seeking a highly motivated individual to become a member of its Portable Equipment Registration Program (PERP) team to work closely with a dynamic team of Air Pollution Specialists (APS), Air Resources Engineers (ARE), and Associate Governmental Program Analysts (AGPA), and perform technical and administrative duties throughout the portable equipment registration process. Responsibilities include working with APSs and AREs in evaluating and processing portable applications, determining eligibility of engines and equipment units, performing emissions calculations for engineering evaluations, and computing emission limitations for operating conditions. Data entry duties include creating company accounts, entering application requests, and editing and updating existing equipment and company data. It is pertinent for Air Resources Technicians (ART) to stay current with regulation updates to the PERP Regulation and associated Airborne Toxic Control Measure (ATCM) for Portable Diesel-Fueled Engines in order to assist with analyzing situations accurately and adopting an effective course of action. Administrative duties entail performing accounting functions that involve collection and handling of all program fees, including, but not limited to, working with the PERP AGPAs, CARB's Administrative Services Division (ASD), and industry accounts payable departments regarding accounts payable and receivable issues and assisting with answering questions and responding to information requests from the public and regulated industry in person, over the phone, or by e-mail. Duties also include generating and preparing portable registration documents, stickers, and placards for mailing; scanning and indexing mailed correspondences and hardcopy files; assist with organizing a weekly schedule for all Statewide PERP tasks; and perform other administrative support tasks within the Section and/or Branch as needed.

Working Conditions

 

This position may be eligible for hybrid in-office work and in-state telework. The amount of telework is at the agency's discretion and is based on the California Air Resource Boards' (CARB) current telework policy. While the CARB may support telework, some in-person attendance is also required. 

The positions at the CARB may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria outlined in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of hybrid telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position’s designated headquarters location at their own expense, as indicated on their duty statement.

  • Requires being stationary, consistent with office work, for extended periods.
  • Standard office environment (artificial lighting, controlled temperature, etc.)  
  • Daily use of a personal computer, office equipment, and/or telephone.

Additional working condition(s):

  • Travel up to 5 percent may be required or as deemed necessary by the job.
