Lead Middle School Teacher

Sweet Tree School, an arts integrated, project based K-8  independent school inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach in Hope, Maine, is now accepting applications for a 4 day teaching position for a lead middle school teacher integrating the arts into a vibrant, emerging, Humanities, Mathematics and Science curriculum. The ideal candidate will have experience in STEAM and the ability to teach multiple areas of literacy, mathematics and science to a small (10-12 students) mixed age group. Familiarity with STEAM, project based learning and arts integration is preferred, along with a general elementary education endorsement. Candidates should have a passion for teaching and learning, science, the arts and mathematics, hands on learning and an appreciation of how social emotional learning, and a growth mindset can influence individual, group and academic success.

 

Job Responsibilities

• Ensure students learning outcomes in humanities, mathematics and science by instructing students in a clear, concise and creative way.

• Make connections across content areas through collaborative projects with other faculty.

• Actively participate in the development of curriculum in response to observations, interests and thematic based learning emerging in the classroom.

• Have experience teaching in the outdoors, gardens and greenhouse

• Knowledge and understanding of the academic standards appropriate for each grade level, while also developing original, project based STEAM opportunities for learning

• Collect evidence of learning through an active documentation approach recording and sharing learning with colleagues and families often

• Carry out the role of an academic advisor for students in grades 5-7

 

 

We are searching for a teacher with the following experience and values:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in education or related field

• Master's degree preferred

• Expertise in Literacy, STEAM and the field of mathematics and sciences

• Experience teaching in a classroom environment

• Ability to communicate effectively and openly with all students, staff, families and colleagues

• Flexibility, creativity and kindness, to work successfully in an an ever changing and progressive student centered school environment 

  • Passion for teaching and learning 
  • Experience in restorative justice practices
  • Interest in growing and learning personally

 

Wages - $35,000 - $37,000

4 days a week Monday - Thursday approximately 28 - 32 hours a week

37 weeks September - June

Wages range from $25 - $32 an hour depending on experience and qualifications
