SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER

 

LEVEL:                         Grades 9-12

CERTIFICATION:          Cross-Categorical (1801)

JOB LOCATION:           Watertown High School

PERCENTAGE:             100%    

START DATE:              August 26, 2024 (new teacher orientation is August 19-22, 2024)

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:     Watertown High School provides the District’s special education students with comprehensive curricular programming and extra-curricular activities to meet individual student needs and interests.  This individual may teach students of a variety of disabilities as well support students in general education classrooms.

 

Candidates should possess:

  • Appropriate DPI certification in Special Education;
  • Experience in teaching special education at the high school level;
  • Experience and understanding of co-teaching as a service delivery model;
  • Knowledge of Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA), Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP), and Individual Educational Plan (IEP) development; 
  • Strong skill set in data analysis, social skill support, and curricular accommodations and modifications;
  • Exceptional skills in using technology to aid instruction;
  • Experience teaching reading/literacy, math, self-advocacy, 
                 and social/emotional learning skills; 
  • Experience supervising and assisting paraprofessional support staff;
  • Experience creating schedules for support staff within the program
  • Experience working with students with medical and/or behavioral needs;
  • Experience with Response to Intervention (RtI) and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI);
  • Ability to conduct, coordinate, and facilitate appropriate special education evaluations and Individual Educational Plans in a timely manner.

 

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in co-teaching and providing inclusive support in the regular education classroom. The District is looking for energetic, compassionate, and creative professionals who will be collaborative team members. 

 

THE SCHOOL:              Watertown High School is the 50th largest high school in Wisconsin and a member of the Badger Conference-South. WHS’s 80 teachers and 4 administrators serve approximately 1,100 students on a 150 acre campus that has had many recent facility upgrades. 

 

THE COMMUNITY:        The Watertown School District has an enrollment of 3,300 students taught in seven buildings.  The Watertown community has 24,000 residents and is located on the Rock River approximately halfway between Madison and Milwaukee, at the junction of Highways 16, 19, and 26.
