Public Programs Fellowship

Fellowship Stipend: Up to $15,000 (September 9th, 2024-July 25th, 2025)

 

DURATION: The Public Programs Fellowship is a paid nine month long, part‐time fellowship which combines museum priorities with each fellow’s interests. The fellowship is a hybrid position and fellows must reside in the Washington DC area.

 

OVERVIEW: The Public Programs Fellow will assist the public programming department with developing programs to welcome and engage visitors. The Public Programs Fellow at The Phillips Collection will help to develop and implement innovative public programs that explore The Phillips Collection’s special exhibitions and permanent collection.

 

The fellow will also be responsible for researching artists, curators, writers, filmmakers, and scholars for panels, workshops, film screenings and other events. Coordinating the advance planning for public programs across departments including Education, Curatorial, Digital Media, Marketing, and Visitor Services. Coordinating with museum staff, program participants, and visitors on the day of events. Completing data entry. Assisting with report-writing and other clerical assignments. Assisting at programs such as Phillips after 5, film screenings, lectures, performances, etc. The fellow also must be available Thursday nights.

 

ELIGIBILITY: All are welcome to apply for the TPC Fellowship. Successful applicants will demonstrate how they will contribute to the diversity of the institution, including identifying with an ethnic, gender, or ability group that is underrepresented, or having overcome a disadvantage or other impediment to success in the museum field.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Ideal candidates include students currently enrolled in undergraduate studies at a university. Fellows may be selected in their junior or senior year, as a graduate student, and/or as a recent graduate. Candidates must also have a demonstrated interest and commitment to pursue a career in the museum field, whether with coursework or professional experience, as well as strong organizational and computer abilities; proficiency in several computer programs and basic knowledge of HTML and CSS is preferred

 

Candidates must display the following:

  • Academic promise (minimum of a 2.5 GPA)
  • Availability for, and commitment to, engaged participation in all aspects of the TPC Fellowship program, which may include attendance at conferences and meetings
  • Eligibility to work in the U.S
