Juvenile Justice Specialist

This position exists to plan and develop relevant juvenile justice program policy and procedures, administer youth programs funded with federal juvenile justice funds, and coordinate all activities concerning the juvenile justice program including: staff support to the Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee (JJAC), compliance monitoring, disproportionate minority contact, and liaison duties with federal, state, and local representatives relative to federal juvenile justice programming.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications

Three* (3) years of professional level experience in juvenile justice issues.  

Experience to include the following:

  • Knowledge and experience in the planning, development and implementation of programs related to juvenile justice issues
  • Knowledge and experience with qualitative and quantitative analysis sufficient to research topics, evaluate program results and recommend changes in policy and program design
  • Experience managing multiple tasks, meeting deadlines and prioritizing tasks with high attention to detail
  • Ability to identify problems and develop creative solutions
  • Budget and/or grants administration experience
  • Excellent written and verbal skills; including the ability to synthesize complex information, write reports and procedures sufficient to communicate effectively to diverse audiences and speak in public
  • Computer skills, including proficiency with Power Point, Excel and Microsoft Word
  • Human relation skills sufficient to build and maintain positive relationships among professional colleagues, criminal justice professionals and community stakeholders
  • Ability to work cooperatively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and underserved communities

*A bachelors degree or higher may substitute for one year of experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the juvenile justice system in Minnesota
  • One year or more of experience with grant management
  • Ability to research, analyze and interpret state and federal laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures

Physical Requirements

Requires occasionally moving and transporting such articles as file boxes and heavy hand tools or heavier materials with help from others, and moving and transporting light objects frequently.  Even though the weights being moved and transported may be a negligible amount, a job in this category may require positioning self to move to a significant degree or may involve maintaining a stationary position for extended periods of time
