The reporting location for this position is Ano Nuevo State Park, in Pescadero, CA.  This position will work under the direction of the State Park Interpreter III.  

This position is responsible for the coordination of interpretive operations on the north coast of the Santa Cruz District. The Interpreter II is a lead for Interpreter I's at Ano Nuevo, Pigeon Point, Half Moon Bay, and Rancho Del Oso.  This position joins the district interpretive leadership team and assists with districtwide interpretation including interpretive training, planning of displays, exhibits, and print materials.

This position may work up to 1500 hours per year.

This position requires a valid Class C driver’s license. You must answer the questions addressing your driver’s license on your application. Ensure you provide your driver’s license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions on your application.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

This position is designated as telework eligible-office centered.

 

Duties

  • This position acts in a lead capacity for Interpreter Is and seasonal interpretive employees. 
  • Responsibilities include scheduling, monitoring, training, and evaluating employees.
  • Assists with recruitment and hiring. 
  • Ensures time sheets and other paperwork are completed. 
  • Supports San Mateo sector by addressing staffing needs including assessing and recommending training, coordination of sector and districtwide interpretative programs, ensure interpretive programs are staffed in unforeseen staff absences, acts as lead in absence of other leads and on an as needed basis. 
  • Prepares and develops educational content for interpretative programs in the sector.

Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience in the California state service performing the duties of a(n) Exhibit Specialist, State Archeologist I, State Historian I, State Park Interpreter I, or State Park Naturalist I, including substantial responsibility for interpretation of State Park programs.

OR 

  • Three years of experience in planning or implementing historical or natural resources interpretive programs involving extensive personal contact with groups and organizations. (Graduate work in interpretation, social sciences, natural sciences, communications, or closely related fields may be substituted for up to one year of the required experience.)

Education: 

  • Equivalent to graduation from college with a degree in interpretation, social sciences, natural sciences, communications, or closely related fields. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for up to two years of the required education on a year- for-year basis.)
