Publishing Specialist II

Publishing Specialist II positions perform complex printing, copying, scanning and plotting work in all phases of the printing process; format simple electronic documents for printing; operate a variety of production equipment; clean, maintain and make routine repairs and adjustments to bindery machines; maintain records; assist in training other Publishing Specialist employees; provide basic customer service; make deliveries if required; and perform other duties as assigned.
 
      NOTES:

  • Employees in job classifications represented by AFSME Local 127 are scheduled to receive the following general wage increases:
  1. 2% effective 1/1/25
  2. 5% effective 7/1/25
  • Eligible benefitted employees originally hired on or after July 10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in the San Diego City Employees Retirement System (SDCERS).
  • Publishing Specialist II employees may be required to work overtime for extended periods.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

You must meet the following requirements on the date you apply, unless otherwise indicated.
 
EXPERIENCE:  One year of full-time experience operating printing, copying, scanning and plotting equipment. Qualifying plotting experience MUST include the use of large scanner copiers.
         
      NOTES:

  • Computer plotting of graphs and/or charts is NOT qualifying.
  • City of San Diego employees using Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA) experience to qualify must submit written documentation signed by their appointing authority or payroll specialist, detailing the work performed, dates, and total number of qualifying OCA hours. OCA experience without the required documentation will NOT be considered.

         
 LICENSE: A valid California Class C or B Driver License may be required at the time of hire.
 

HIGHLY DESIRABLE:

  • Experience in operating binding and finishing equipment.
